I looked at these type of devices for some time (whilst debating what would be the easiest and most sensible for me to sneak into my hand luggage on honeymoon!).

I ended up deciding that it needed to be more than just a little device, so ended up with a small laptop - 12" Philips X53, had the odd problem but still a fantastic laptop!

Something for this now would have to ship with a sim card slot and allsorts of things, currently my phone does the job (Orange SPV m700) when I'm out and about, and I'll probably upgrade that in the summer again (quite liking the look of the HTC Cruise?).

By the comment that the chip technology is some 7 or so years old I'm not sure that the specification will be such that it'll be capable of running XP.

The eeepc can, and the eeepc's RAM can be upgraded (I've just replaced the 512mb DDR2 SODIMM in mine with 2gb).

The battle for the cheapest laptop is fine, but they've got to be of use!

Now that is very interesting ..... if the drive was 2GB it'd be better. The 1GB doesn't really lend itself to installing XP over the Open Source it comes with though.

Could be a good one for the kids though and pretty much disposable at that cost!

Afraid not Tom, Dell do have an accidental damage policy but that's not part of the Gold support contract.

Although I'm not convinced that's available on servers, but definately on laptops as they're more likely to be damaged by general wear and tear on a day to day basis.

I bought a Server from Dell and damaged it while moving it in my car. Does my Gold maintenance cover this damage?

Hi Dan,

You've got a broken link up there!

Writing what your users want to read is a fantastic starting point, with unique and original content that will make them come back time and time again!

You ought to consider adding a subscribe to comments plugin on this blog, so I don't have to come back and check for new comments on this post!
